When Steve Harvey Explained the Difference between a Career and a Calling, I was Floored.
In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Steve Harvey said that two of the most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you found out why. It’s a profound statement, indeed.
In his book “Act Like a Success, Think Like a Success,” Harvey also said that you’d need to discover what your talent and gift are. Winfrey added this:
If you aren’t aware of what they are, you’d only be aimlessly floating in life without understanding what your purpose is.
Your talent would allow you to have a wonderful career. And your career is what you’re paid for, while your calling is what you’re made for. Your calling is tied directly to your gift.
Using himself as an example, Harvey said that his talent is his funny. He’s gifted in human and he can make anything funny. Now, what’s his true gift? He can take information, transpose it immediately, and comes out in a certain way that’s easy to understand, motivational, inspirational, and uplifting.
And Harvey believes that God made him more than funny. He was created for a specific purpose, which is a “calling.”
What are your purpose and calling in life?
